Produced by Gopalakrishnan Ramakrishnan, House Owner is written and directed by Telly fame Lakshmy Ramakrishnan. This movie is based on the infamous Chennai floods.

House owner has a thin story line straddling on just two characters set in a very limited environment, but then it is brilliantly written with the subtlety of the scenes conveying epic emotions. It takes a little while for the movie to settle in like the onset of the rains, but once it does the fantastic screenplay keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat taking them on a wonderful ride of hope and despair without being theatrical. The juxtaposition of the past and the present is plaited seamlessly as the screenplay takes a languid turn, and yet the air of tension encompasses the script seizing the viewer’s rapt attention.

House owner would not have been half the film without the sterling enactments of the lead actors. It would be futile to compare, you still would have to give it to Sriranjini to have delivered one of the finest performances in recent times in the annals of Tamil cinema. Kishor is not far away with his own amazing portrayal and so are the young Pasanga Kishore and Lovelyn Chandrashekar.

House Owner is an exemplary example of how a limited budget cannot be a constraint for a technically sound film and posture on talent. Cinematographer Krishna Sekar’s noteworthy use of colours and tones exhibit the mood of the film so aptly. Ghibran’s music and background score is an asset to the tight scenes. Dialogues are delightful while Lakshmy Ramakrishnan’s direction is almost impeccable without compromise.

With House Owner, Lakshmy Ramakrishnan vaults herself to the august company of noted filmmakers. House Owner is a treat to the connoisseurs of classic films. The film is one of the most definitive films in the art of film making that should be perhaps watched by any aspiring film maker anywhere.

House Owner is a film that you ought to “stay in” for a while, to experience the vivid contours of what a journey called life, love and a film is.
