Bumper is an action drama written and directed by debutant M. Selvakumar. The film is produced by Vetha Pictures.

“BUMPER” begins with great promise, grabbing the audience’s attention with its initial noises. The film manages to engage viewers with its clever wit and exploration of middle-class drama. However, as the story progresses into the second half, it disappointingly falls short.
The film’s downfall lies in the writer-director’s script, which loses its coherence and logic in the latter half. Lengthy scenes devoid of any rationality start to dominate the narrative, leaving the audience perplexed and detached from the story. The introduction of melodrama further muddles the film’s focus, detracting from the strengths established earlier.
By the time the hurried climax arrives, it becomes painfully apparent that “BUMPER” could have been much better than what it ultimately turned out to be. The lack of reasoning behind the climax adds to the overall frustration, leaving viewers yearning for a more satisfying and thought-out resolution.

Additionally, the film’s attempt to convey a message falls flat. Whatever message the writer-director intended to propagate gets lost amidst the incoherent plot and melodramatic distractions. It is unfortunate that the film fails to effectively communicate its intended theme, missing a valuable opportunity to resonate with the audience on a deeper level.
Despite its promising beginning and moments of wit, “BUMPER” ultimately fizzles out, leaving viewers disappointed. The lack of logical progression, the introduction of melodrama, and the rushed climax all contribute to the film’s overall lackluster execution. While it had potential, “BUMPER” fails to live up to its early promises, resulting in a missed opportunity for a truly engaging and meaningful cinema.
Vetri does what he knows the best. Shivani has nothing much to do. Harish Perady is average. The rest are decent.

Sabari Malayan’s cinematography is neat. Govind Vasanth’s musical score works. Dialogues are good. Kasi Vishwanath’s editing is OK. Direction for a first timer is fine.
BUMPER is a very basic attempt at the most !!
