CHANDRAMUKHI 2 – MOVIE REVIEW

Chandramukhi 2 is a 2023 Tamil-Telugu bilingual comedy horror film written and directed by P. Vasu, produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner of Lyca Productions. It is a sequel to blockbuster Rajinikanth starrer Chandramukhi (2005).
P.Vasu took a huge gamble in his attempt for a sequel to the 2005 humungous hit Chandramukhi that was known for Rajinikanth’s stellar cameo as a king and Jyothika’s towering performance, by casting Lawrence Raghavendra who does overdoes in his effort to imitate the superstar and Kangana Ranaut who doesn’t quite fit the bill. You can’t absolve P.Vasu of mediocrity, who tries to encash the success of the prequel by doing nothing but rehashes the same story with a few copy paste instances from other horror comedy films and what you get is a mess of a film. The humour is sick and tiring while the action scenes are over the top. Songs are a bore and the costumes are a joke. The melodrama is hard to handle.
Raghava Lawrence is like one would expect, OK in parts and loud and gaudy otherwise. Kangana Raunat has hardly anything to do in a underwritten role for her. Lakshmi Menon has more to do. Vadivelu is clearly past his prime. Radhika looks strange and the rest are average.
Cinematographer RD Rajashekar’s work doesn’t gel. Keeravani’s background score falls flat. The songs don’t work. Anthony’s editing fails. Dialogues are average and direction below par.
CHANDRAMUKHI 2 can be barely watched even if you have not watched the original !
