KURANGU PEDAL is a rural drama that is bankrolled by Siva Karthikeyan Productions. This film is written and directed by Kamalakannan. The film is loosely adapted from a short story “Cycle” by Rasi Azhagappan.
The film makes a lazy beginning as the film slowly unwinds the character and the characters of the village. The cliché scenes and the forced nostalgia create a sense of déjà vu and boredom. It slowly picks up pace and interest towards the interval with the focus on a particular family. Second half is where the film transforms itself into an interesting ride with a very pragmatic, underplayed screenplay that manages to capture the attention of the viewers and the film culminates into a predictable climax. The film works more so because of the realistic presentation and its simplicity without being sensational.
Santosh Velmurugan as the kid of Kaali Venkat delivers a stand out performance. Kaali Venkat does a neat job. The rest of the cast headed by Prasanna too are good.
Cinematography by Bhaskaran is good. Ghibran’s background score and songs work. Dialogues are simple and neat. Direction is effective.
KURANGU PEDAL is for nostalgia and some good fun for kids !!
KURANGU PEDAL – GOOD !!
