Deepavali Bonus is a rural drama produced by Deepak Tala Kumar and written and directed by debut filmmaker Jeyabal.
The film’s plot is straightforward, with the story rarely deviating from its central theme. Interestingly, the screenplay gives a 90’s feel, which feels somewhat at odds with a present-day story about a family struggling over ₹2000. Despite this, Deepavali Bonus succeeds with its unpretentious approach and authentic character portrayals. The film avoids excessive melodrama, leaning towards a more realistic tone. Its brief runtime of 95 minutes keeps it tight, though the climax stretches a bit longer than necessary.
Vikrant gives a respectable performance, while Ritvika shines as well. The supporting cast delivers adequately.
Gautham Sethuraman’s cinematography is polished, and Maria Jerald’s music score complements the story effectively. The dialogues are engaging, and Jeyabal’s direction is clean and competent for a first-time director.
Deepavali Bonus makes for a pleasant watch!
