JOLLY O GYMKHANA – MOVIE REVIEW

JOLLY O GYMKHANA is a comedy film written and directed by Sakthi Chidambaram. The film is produced by Rajan and Neela under the banner of Transindia Media and Entertainment.

Jolly O Gymkhana kicks off with a disclaimer: “Don’t use your brains while watching this movie.” Fair enough, but little did we know the filmmakers took it as a personal challenge to fry our other senses too. This so-called comedy is a madcap ride that veers dangerously into vulgarity and crassness, with a plot as watertight as a sieve. Sure, there are a handful of moments that spark a flicker of amusement, but they’re about as rare as a polite auto driver in rush-hour traffic—definitely not worth the price of popcorn. The characters seem to be in an identity crisis, doing, saying, and becoming whatever suits the chaos of the moment. If the creators had used even half the brainpower they demanded we leave at home, this ensemble cast could have delivered something half-decent.
With an ensemble cast, We have Prabhu Deva, whose comic timing is wasted, Madonna looking like she’s wandered into the wrong movie, and Abhirami providing the only surprise that isn’t unpleasant. As for Yogi Babu and Robo Shankar, their “comedy” could qualify as a public health hazard.
The technical side isn’t much better. Ganesh Chandra’s cinematography is passable, but Ashwin Vinayagamoorthy’s decent music is ruined by bad song placements. The editing feels like it was done during a power cut, the dialogues are pure cringe, and the direction? Let’s just say the compass was broken.

JOLLY O GYMKHANA —Skip the gymkhana and stay jolly at home.
