Review:
Gangers (2025) brings back the spirit of classic Tamil comedies, with a strong comeback from Vadivelu that fans have been eagerly waiting for. This time, he’s supported by two fresh faces, and together they recreate the kind of hearty laughter that’s been missing from the big screen for a while. As expected in a Sundar. C film, there are no big plot twists or deep storytelling — and that’s completely fine because the movie simply aims to entertain.
At a time when most Tamil movies lean heavily towards dark, serious themes, Gangers feels like a welcome change. Sundar. C sticks to his strength: a lively, colourful narrative filled with humour, fast-paced scenes, and a conscious decision to not get bogged down by logic — which works for a film of this genre.
Vadivelu is undoubtedly the heart and soul of the movie. Though there are slightly fewer iconic punchlines compared to his earlier films, his impeccable timing, body language, and trademark expressions easily light up the screen. It’s a joy to see him in his element, carrying a large part of the movie’s entertainment on his shoulders.
Sundar. C, doubling as the lead actor and director, delivers a composed and engaging performance without trying to steal the spotlight from others. Catherine Tresa, playing the female lead, is given a solid role with good screen presence, unlike the usual trend where heroines are sidelined for glamour alone.
The villains, however, come across as a weak point. While they have the look and the dialogues, their characters are treated more as comedic props rather than real threats, which slightly dulls the impact during key scenes. A stronger antagonist could have raised the stakes and made the climax more gripping.
Technical Aspects:
- Music: Hiphop Tamizha’s background score is lively and complements the movie’s fast rhythm. The songs fit the mood but aren’t particularly memorable outside the film.
- Cinematography: U.K. Senthil Kumar keeps the visuals bright and colourful, matching the light-hearted tone throughout.
- Editing: Fenny Oliver maintains a brisk pace for most of the movie, although a few scenes in the latter half could have been tighter.
Final Verdict:
Gangers is a film that stays true to its purpose — to entertain without complications. With Vadivelu’s entertaining comeback, Sundar. C’s solid performance, and a refreshing focus on fun over logic, the movie succeeds in delivering an enjoyable, feel-good experience. It may not be flawless, but it’s a sincere attempt to bring back clean comedy to Tamil cinema.
