Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs is a 2019 animated film which features the voices of Chloe Mortez and Sam Claflin. The story is loosely based on Snow White and the seven dwarves but with a twist.

An overweight woman(Mortez) is transformed into a beautiful version of herself thanks to a pair of magic red shoes and is teamed up with suitors who were magically transformed into green dwarves. However the young woman’s evil stepmother Regina wants the shoes for herself to stay young(yeah Tangled vibes) and its up to Snow White(the name of the young girl) and Merlin(Claflin) who is in love with Snow White aka Red Shoes to save the day.

When I saw the teaser for this 2 years ago it got so much backlash as the girl was obese and it was sending a bad message for girls. To me I thought it was a very clever movie as it teaches you that it doesn’t matter if your thin or not thin, beauty is found within and someone will love you for you and not what they want you to be.

The animation is nice, the voice cast was great. However Snow White and Regina reminded me of Rapunzel with her brown hair and Mother Gothel. There was even a scene where (spoiler alert) Snow White cries over Merlin and he becomes human again which was like Tangled meets Beauty and the Beast.

Overall I found it decent and enjoyable. Give it a chance.
