THUGHLAK DURBAR – MOVIE REVIEW

Produced by Seven Screen Studios THUGHLAK DURBAR is Vijay Sethupathi’s second release this week and also gets a Sun TV release on Ganesh Chaturthi. The movie is written by Balaji Tharaneetharan and directed by Delhi Prasad Deenadayalan.

TD opens up interestingly, but very soon gets mundane despite the “Anniyan” twist masked on “Amaidhipadai’s” face. Amaidhipadai attained a somewhat cult status, largely due to skilful direction and brilliant dialogues, not to forget the performances. TD doesn’t get lucky that way. The writing is plain and the screenplay does not light up. Despite two strong lead characters, the script gets rather droning after a while. Thankfully romance in the film is kept aside and the drama is rather downcast, but then the script isn’t strong and compelling enough.

Vijay Sethupathi looks his obvious self. Partheeban is sadly underutilized. Rashi Khanna and Manjima Mohan get very little screen space. The rest are good.

Manoj Parahamsa and Mahendran Jayaraj handle the cinematography and are OK. Govind Vasantha’s background score is neat, while the songs are average. Govindraj’s editing could have been better. The length is an issue. Dialogues are standard while direction by Delhi Prasad is respectable for a debutant.

TUGHLAK DURBAR ends up less engaging despite the potential it had.

TUGHLAH DURBAR – THADUMATRAM !!
