The Accidental Prime Minister (2019)

ANUPAM KHER: He portrays a stellar performance as submissive Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh imitating his trademark soft spoken accent and skittish footsteps.

AKSHAYE KHANNA: Porttrays Sanjay Baru with great dexterity and keeps the film momentum on a roll in various circumstances of political drama.

Divya Seth Shah: Plays an impressive role of first lady Gursharan Kaur with her stamped performance.

STORY: The film is based on the book by Sanjay Baru media advisor to the erstwhile Prime Minister with the same name. The story revolves around Dr Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister under UPA rule from 2004-2014, his frustration and helplessness while heading the government being controlled by his party’s top brass “The Family”.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: Good

SCREENPLAY: Lacks depth

DIRECTION: Debutant Director Vijay Ratnakar Gutte handling of real life political events is over- dramatized and sometimes lacks depth and play out without context. Handling of side players could have been more matured.

ACCIDENTAL PRIME MINISTER (2019): The film bravely depicts and names real life political characters and shows them in the light as perceived by media, people and above all the media advisor to the PM Dr Manmohan Singh. The film projects Singh as a squeaky-voiced puppet who is constantly forced to retreat his steps at the behest of the party boss sometimes projecting his achievements in bits and pieces.
