Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019)

RAJ KUMAR RAO: Powered performance by him as usual with even the mundane scenes coming alive by his presence as Sahil Mirza.

SONAM K AHUJA: Scores brilliantly in silence character moments of ‘Sweety’ and brings in vulnerability with her acting talent in the central character role.

ANIL KAPOOR: Displays a brilliant energetic father’s role in Balbir. His impromptu jig or practising the recipes in the dead of night after watching cookery show is simply fantastic combined with his emotional character display scenes.

JUHI CHAWLA: Acts as a Punjabi aunty with a staggering performance.

STORY: It is a significant sanitised new age sensitive same-sex love that can resonate with anyone who’s being ridiculed for being different. The story depicts an unconventional tale of chasing love and its acceptance. The progressive subject with relevant passion, conversations, personal feelings and most modern liberated love has been dealt in a most entertaining and funny fashion.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: Good

SCREENPLAY: Lacks punch and sheen

DIRECTION: First time direction by Shelly Chopra Dhar has been brilliant in patches dealing the sensitive subject of sexuality and its acceptance by older generations in a convincing manner.

EK LADKI KO DEKHA TO AISA LAGA (2019): The film dealt with new age romance with Sahil meeting Sweety at a Delhi theatre, fell in love at first sight and chases his love bird to a distant Punjab village in Moga. But when he proposes to her he realised that she loves somebody else. The film changes gear when she confesses her same-sex love and the emotional upheaval under the circumstances. The film tracks the father’s feel and coming to terms with the unconventional love of her daughter with her suppressed emotions will touch a chord with the viewer’s mind.
