VAATHI – MOVIE REVIEW

VAATHI is a period coming-of-age action drama film written and directed by Venky Atluri. Shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages the film is produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas,

A sedate beginning makes for a tepid 30 minutes start to VAATHI. The writer seems to have believed in his plot so much that he chose to ignore the mundaneness that affect the screenplay that looks like a mix of so many such films from before and ironically with an actor in SK who has played the lead in a similar film in the past. There are moments of cleverness but they are so small that they get lost in the cliches galore. The comedy doesn’t work nor do the forced action sequences. Save for the costumes the staging that is set doesn’t say much for a period film. What works for VAATHI is that it isn’t loud when it preaches and it does communicate about pervading issues at some points effectively.

Dhanush (slightly beefed up) delivers as he can and tries his best to save the film. Samyukta is okay. It’s good to see Sai Kumar after a long time. Samudrakanni looks different and is decent. The rest of the cast come and go..

Yuvaraj’c cinematography is fine. GV Prakash’s background score is loud and the songs passable. Editing by Naveen could have been sharper. Dialogues work and direction is average.

VAATHI unfortunately isn’t SIR !!

2/5
